Reading Guide Titus

These reading guides are for Christians who seek to read the Bible devotedly, closely, seriously. The goal is simple: to offer practical tools that help readers to engage Scripture and Scripture's God more meaningfully. Every readers goal should be 1) to learn about God 2) to gain confidence and wisdom in facing life's daily challenges.

John For Skeptics: prologue 1:1-18

This series aims to explain the Gospels directly to non-believing critics. To do so, the series will work on two levels: 1) The meaning of Gospel stories on their own terms 2) The grounds for why Christians take these stories seriously still today.

The Divide

In this episode of The Divide Bill and Drew talk to Ashfaq, a former President of the Islamic Society in the Deep South. We ask him why is he as a Muslim confident that God exists.  He gives a robust defense of belief in God. But is his belief grounded in the Quran alone, in natural revelation, or in a combination of both? Listen to find out and also to hear how Bill and Drew respond.

Luke 2 isnt a Christmas story

Christmas can't explain the true aim and meaning of Luke 2. That leaves open the question: what exactly did Luke have in mind when he first penned this famous story? What was his point? The biblical scholar David Gooding provides a compelling answer in his book "According to Luke" and this video expands on his explanation.

The Divide

New Testament Criticism

Lloyd (John Cedars Channel) and Alex (Cosmic Skeptic Channel), two Atheists, produced a video on 20 ideas from the New Testament they judged to be terrible. Their video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94Gls...

The Divide

In this episode Bill visits the 2019 Secular Student Alliance convention in Los Angeles and talks with Ryan Bell, the National Organizing Manager, about how he ended up an Atheist after twenty years of being a Christian Pastor. Drew and Bill wrap up the episode in an after show where they discuss the interview and the different ways Christians and Atheists react to controversial parts of the Bible.

How To Read A Gospel

The Gospels can leave a reader feeling as if the Evangelists are sometimes just meandering from story to story. It seems as if there's no immediate relationship between adjacent stories except for the fact that they are linked in a broadly chronological order. This series is intended to dispel this impression and show how careful the Evangelists were in both clustering and ordering their stories.

The Divide

In this episode Bill visits the American Atheist convention and talks with Mary Beth, an Atheist (of course), about whether religious people compartmentalize their intellect. Drew and Bill wrap up the episode in an after show where discuss the interview and Drew's thoughts on the question.

The Divide

In this episode Bill and Drew talk with Rachel, a Christian professor, who has been engaged in social work in economically depressed countries for a number of years. We ask her whether Christian social work is better for society than secular social work. We also address whether Christians use charity unjustly as leverage to force people to listen to their message. A related topic surfaces toward the end of our conversation: can a Christian truly claim that 'their' version of Jesus is the 'real' one?

The Divide

In this episode we talk to Bob, a former atheist, who grew up in a non-religious family. We ask why he became a Christian. We discuss the mysterious nature of belief and what someone experiences practically when their worldview changes radically.
